2025 will see Alton Towers welcome a new attraction, which puts a fresh ‘spin’ on an old favourite.

WELCOME TOXICATOR

Toxicator will be located in Forbidden Valley, home to favourites such as Nemesis and Galactica. Publicised in late-2024 with the slogan ‘Submit to the Spin’ Toxicator is a thrill ride that uses two giant arms to lift rows of riders into the air, and swing them round, resulting in plenty of upside-down moments and lurched stomachs.

The ride model is a Huss Suspended Top Spin, which is found in various parks around the world. Possibly the most notable in Europe is Talocan located at Phantasialand, Germany. Check it out in action here:

IS TOXICATOR THE SAME AS RIPSAW?

Alton Towers was previously home to another Huss Top Spin called Ripsaw. It operated from 1997 until 2015 also in Forbidden Valley. Elsewhere in the UK, Chessington World of Adventures had their own version called Rameses Revenge from 1995 to 2019. The new version at Alton Towers is an upgraded model with a few differences:

  • Riders feet now dangle rather than being on a platform

  • Rows of riders face both ways, whereas previously they all were on one side

Early Top Spin  models were notorious with park engineers as they were high maintenance, often suffering issues that closed the rides for extended periods. Newer models seem to have evolved, removing many of the troublesome factors, helped in part due to years of monitoring and fixing previous incarnations.

Toxicator will be placed very close to Ripsaw’s original home, but on a massive new platform built at considerable expense, turned roughly 90-degrees. A pathway under the platform will allow spectators to watch from right underneath this impressive contraption, whilst offering those seated either side of the dual-sided gondola a decent view too.

WHY TOXICATOR?

The name and theme is linked to the Phalanx and Nemesis storylines of the wider area. The video below shows the bright green (lime?) and black colour scheme. Two large tanks will be situated either side of the ride, with the appearance of being filled with toxic waste/gunge. Water troughs with fountains, which as commonly found on these rides, are situated under the gondolas but are not expected to directly wet those on the attraction.

WHEN DOES TOXICATOR OPEN?

At the time of writing Alton Towers were only stating:

“We’re not quite ready to reveal precisely when Toxicator will turn your world upside down this Spring, but rest assured the wait will be worth it.”
