It was announced today (Friday 28th March) that Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California will permanently close. The ride has been closed for an extended period of maintenance since late 2024, and the news coming out of the park suggests it became apparent that a long term fix for some issues was unfeasible.

When it opened in 1997 (then titled just Superman: The Escape) it boasted the title for tallest coaster in the world at 415-feet tall, with speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. In truth the Intamin launched shuttle coaster had not reached those heights or speeds for a very long time, with the expensive and troublesome LSM launch seemingly being toned down.

The Lex Luther: Drop of Doom drop tower attraction attached to the iconic main structure of the rollercoaster since 2012 will remain open, although you suspect that the whole thing will eventually need removal.
